I was born in Glasgow and moved down to the west country at the age of two. Both my parents are quite musical and there were always guitars around the house so it was only a matter of time before I felt the urge to give it a go! However with my dad being left handed and all of his guitars upside down for me, I struggled a bit in the beggining until he gave me an old acoustic (right handed). I was only little so unfortunately this one ended up I remember clearly, with Garfield stickers on it (I would never do this now to my much loved Lowden I have to stress!) The music being played at my parents house has definitely had an impact on my musical tastes. The house was always filled with the wonderful sounds of Hank Williams, Bob Dylan Woody Guthrie and more.
I started writing songs at 11 but couldnt really play the guitar until I was 14, even then only a couple of chords but enough to write a song.
I suppose I started to take it a bit more seriously at about 16. I could now play to an average level and started to work on my finger-picking.(something that I always strive to get better at). With a bit more confidence, I decided to audition as lead singer for a band and I suppose this is when things really started to take off.
Starting out at 16, I was lead singer of E- type a local 8 piece who played Devon festivals and universities  and went on to take part in many other local projects, including the Plymouth folk festival for a few years running, Supported very talented musician Seth Lakeman at the acoustic orange B bar and  had a song released on vinyl (what would i do)   with Aldo Vannucci, a professional DJ and composer from Plymouth. I then had one of my songs highly commended ( come on home which is available here to listen to) in a national songwriting completion. We moved to Cornwall in 2006 and in amongst everything, have been bringing up my four kids Charlotte 11, cameron 9 Maya 5 and James alexander 19 months.
Charlotte already has a daisy rock flower guitar but like me in the beginning is quite willful and will play it when she feels ready (hopefully before it's too small for her!) Right now I am starting afresh, listening to my earlier songs with a new ear and writing in many different styles.
Ambitious and determined to be a professional songwriter, I will keep going at this for as long as it takes. There is so much talent out there waiting to be discovered and with new ways of getting your original material heard,  my optimism is higher these days!
oh and i also play with my husband Brian (an amazing banjo player)
